Services

Our services include therapy, evaluation, consultation, and training.

Therapy

Kidpower Therapies provides highly individualized, specialized pediatric clinical services across the globe. Therapy is family-centered, using a play-based holistic approach to evaluation and treatment. Occupational therapy services focus on a child’s occupation, namely play, self-care, and learning. Getting ready for going to school and learning encompasses many components of self-regulation, sensory processing, body awareness, large and fine motor skill development, and motor planning. Building these skills and empowering children with confidence and motivation occurs in a playful, child-led- adult-guided environment. The therapist encourages the child to participate in fun and purposeful activities that activate sensory-motor-cognitive connections. Challenges are provided at the just-right level, to maximize participation and adaptive responses.

Services are typically provided through individual sessions, however co-treatments may be provided with combining children and therapists as needed during one treatment session. Co-treatments often benefit from children in multiple ways.

Treatment approaches will vary and may include:

  • Sensory Integration (ASI as well as adjunct sensory processing approaches)

  • Development of Sensory Diet/Sensory Environments~Home/School

  • Visual-Vestibular Intervention (Inner ear balance system)

  • Therapeutic Listening

  • Handwriting Without Tears

  • The Alert Program for Self Regulation

  • Social Thinking Curriculum

  • Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT)

  • Executive Functioning Training and Supports

  • Bike Riding Training

Evaluations

Most children are in need of a comprehensive evaluation in order to begin therapy services. This evaluation incorporates time with the child, parents, and other caregivers, as appropriate to gain a complete understanding of the needs and skills of each individual. The evaluation may require more than one session and typically includes 2 hours of direct assessment, a detailed written report, and an evaluation feedback meeting. The assessment tools used for the evaluation may vary depending on the child’s age, needs, and abilities. An initial intake conversation will help to clarify the best evaluation choices for each family.

Consultations

Individual consultations are often necessary for clients also receiving direct therapy services. These additional supports provided in their school or community settings are offered to enhance therapeutic programming. These can include attending teacher conferences, individual educational plan(IEP) meetings, or completing a school visit to observe a client's performance in the classroom. Following the visit, a report is generated describing recommendations and accommodations. These can be conducted in person or via technology/telephone consults.

Training

Parent trainings are offered as class modules three different times per year. The scheduled topics range from Self-regulation: Impact on Behavior and Focus to Creating an Effective Sensory Diet at Home and School. New dates will be announced soon. These modules are offered in a teleconference platform and occur once per week for 6 weeks. Parents of children receiving direct services often benefit the most from these trainings but they are also open to families not currently receiving services.

Sensory Integrative Intensives

Some clients benefit from a short term of intensive Sensory Integrative intervention. This intensive typically involves hourly treatment sessions for 4-5 days per week for a 2-4 week period. This intervention method may be ideal for clients with significant sensory integration needs and those with visual-vestibular-proprioceptive integration.
