Most children new to therapy require a comprehensive evaluation in order to begin occupational therapy intervention services. A comprehensive evaluation requires multiple hours of a therapist's time, including a complete review of pertinent medical, psychological, and academic records. The evaluation will give you a complete picture of your child’s sensory processing and motor needs along with recommendations for services and accommodations. It includes 2 1/2 to 3 hours of direct assessment, a comprehensive detailed written report, and an evaluation feedback meeting. The assessment tools used for this evaluation vary depending on the child’s age, abilities, and needs. Accurate and detailed completion of the registration form will help to guide the therapist in the decision-making process regarding essential questions, family priorities, and selecting the proper assessment tools.
